Use cases for JPG compression

JPEG photos often need smaller delivery copies while the original stays available for editing.

Preparing product photographs

Use Balanced as a starting point and inspect texture, labels, and gradients at the display size. Lower quality can remove fine detail.

Sending photo attachments

Compare the output size with the destination limit. Smart resize can help when full-resolution dimensions are unnecessary.

Choosing JPG compression settings

Balanced and Smallest file re-encode JPEG with possible quality loss. Lossless returns the original JPEG unchanged; it is not a new lossless JPEG export.

Balanced
A quick search for smaller files with good visual detail. Some quality loss is possible.
Lossless
Preserves decoded pixels and dimensions. JPEG and GIF remain unchanged. Other formats are rewritten only when exact checks pass; otherwise TinyImage keeps the original.
Smallest file
Tries more encodings and may reduce quality further. It can take longer. Compare the result before replacing your source.

Smart resize is optional and can reduce dimensions. Lossless keeps original dimensions. If a suitable compressed file is not smaller, TinyImage returns the original.

What to check before replacing your JPG

TinyImage’s Lossless mode returns JPEG unchanged. Use Balanced or Smallest file when you accept re-encoding, and compare the result before replacing your original.

Keep your source if profiles, layers, metadata, or archival fidelity matter. Pixel checks and page checks do not promise preservation of every application-specific feature.

A measured JPG compression example

This 1,536 × 1,024 px photo went from 860,469 bytes to 258,586 bytes using Balanced mode at quality 75, with Smart resize off. That is about 70% smaller for this image; it is not a guaranteed saving.

Open both files to inspect full-size detail. JPEG compression can remove image information even when the images look similar at a smaller display size.

Compress JPG FAQ

Answers about JPG compression, image quality, and downloads.

Can I compress JPG without losing any pixels?

TinyImage’s Lossless mode returns JPEG unchanged. Use Balanced or Smallest file when you accept re-encoding, and compare the result before replacing your original.

Why did my compressed JPG stay the same size?

An already-optimized image may not have a smaller suitable encoding. TinyImage keeps the original when the same-format candidate is not smaller; zero savings does not necessarily mean a failure.

Can I compress several JPG files together?

Yes. Upload up to 20 supported JPG files, choose settings before uploading, and download results individually or in a ZIP.

How long are downloads available?

Stored outputs use private temporary storage and signed download links that expire after 24 hours. Storage lifecycle cleanup follows.
